In-Home Assessment - What to expect

Thank You for Scheduling Your In-Home Assessment!

I’m looking forward to meeting you and your dog in person. This assessment is an important first step in understanding your dog’s unique needs and creating a customized training plan.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know before our visit.

What Will We Do During the Assessment?

During your in-home assessment, we will:

✅ Discuss Your Goals and Concerns
I’ll ask about your dog’s history, routines, and any specific challenges you’d like to address.

✅ Observe Your Dog’s Behavior
I’ll watch how your dog responds to the home environment, family members, and any triggers that may be present.

✅ Review Your Dog’s Current Skills
We may gently test basic skills like sit, recall, leash manners, or handling tolerance.

✅ Develop a Customized Plan
We’ll talk through my recommendations and options for training programs, including timelines and pricing.

✅ Answer All Your Questions
This is your time to share concerns and get clear answers.

How Long Does It Take?

Your assessment typically lasts about 45–60 minutes, depending on your dog’s needs and your questions.

What Should You Prepare Before the Visit?

To make the most of our time together, please have the following ready:

✅ Your Dog’s Vaccination Records
These can be a paper copy or digital.

✅ Your Dog on Leash
Have a collar/harness and leash ready for safe introductions.

✅ Any Training Equipment You Already Use
(e.g., crates, treats, e-collars, muzzles)

✅ A List of Your Priorities
It helps to jot down:

  • Specific behaviors you want to work on

  • Any triggers or situations that concern you

  • Questions about training methods, expectations, or pricing

✅ A Quiet Space for Discussion
Please minimize distractions if possible (turn off the TV, secure other pets) so we can focus.

How Should You Prepare Your Dog?

  • Keep your dog in their normal routine.

  • Avoid tiring them out right before the visit. (I’d like to see their typical behavior.)

  • Keep them leashed or separated when I arrive until I give instructions for introductions.

What Happens Next?

At the end of our assessment:

  • You’ll receive a clear training recommendation with pricing and next steps.

  • If you’d like to move forward, we can schedule your first training session.

  • If you need time to decide, that’s perfectly fine—no pressure.
